Local radio station 6DBY FM was our venue for the Derby Yarn Up 7-8 September 2015, and we were fortunate to have the assistance of Gordon Marshall who shared his story of being called up for national service, also his involvement in recognition of Aboriginal people’s defence service. We were also riveted by singer and former Norforce member Ashley Oobagooma’s reflections on community access to land and his training and service. We visited the Derby Cemetery with Glynis and Gordon Marshall and saw the grave site of Gordon’s father John who served in the North West Battalion during World War 2.
