Madeline Hodge

Madeline Hodge

Madeline Hodge discusses the men that went to war from the families around the Gold Coast, including George Hamilton Graham, and her depiction of these men in a series of paintings. Madeline was inspired to paint this series after attending the Black Diggers service at Yugambeh. The four paintings are shown and described in the interview and each depicts a common theme of aboriginal men exchanging their way of life and connection with country around the Gold Coast region for war in France and the Middle East. Madeline also talks about returned indigenous servicemen she has personally known through her life and emphasizes their reticence when speaking about war.
