Benjamin Gurruwiwi's interview in Darwin

Benjamin Gurruwiwi is from Elcho Island. In this interview he talks about his experience in NORFORCE. Benjamin says that there is a great deal of pride that comes with being in NORFORCE and where he comes from people look up to you as a role model as a member of NORFORCE. Benjamin himself was encouraged to join NORFORCE by his father and older members of his community who served. He says that the best thing about NORFORCE is meeting new people and sharing knowledge and learning about new places.

This interview took place on 11 August 2016 in Darwin and was conducted by Ms Siobhan McDonnell as part of the Australian Research Council-funded research project Serving our Country: a history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the defence of Australia.
