Ceremonies commemorating the service and sacrifice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander servicemen and women were organised by ex-service organisations with the support of state and local government and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and held in Australian capital cities during National Reconciliation Week 2014.

The following events took place in a number of locations:


11:00 AM, Friday 31st May, 2014 Shrine of Remembrance, Melbourne Forecourt, Eternal Flame (enter from Birdwood Avenue)

Brisbane 11.00am, Wednesday, 28 May 2014 Anzac Square Sydney’s Indigenous Veterans Commemoration Ceremony was well supported with veterans, VIP’s such as the Governor of NSW, state and Federal Ministers, the RSL, ADF representatives and school children lining the Pool of Reflection and around the ANZAC memorial in Hyde Park.

This moving Reconciliation Week event paid tribute to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women who have served their country through dance, song, wreath laying and other activities.

Veterans such as John Kinsela, David Williams (Emcee), Steve Dodd, Trevor Wilson and ex-RAAF member Harry Allie relished the chance to catch up with each other again.
