Taken from her mother and family near Kakadu as a child and moved to Darwin, Jane Christophersen recalls living through the bombing of Darwin before being evacuated to Merbein in Victoria, where she worked picking fruit and vegetables, before moving on again to Adelaide where she worked cleaning in a hospital. Jane recalls this time spent away from Darwin during the war in detail, including the racism she encountered. She also recounts returning to Pine Creek and then to Darwin when the war ended and speaks about post-war life in Darwin, including meeting her brother Bill -whom she didn’t know existed- for the first time in the late 1950s.
