The Broome Community Yarn Up was held 7-9 September 2015, and in his hometown, Mick Dodson’s sister Fay talked him through family photos, and we also heard from past and present service men and women including James Tang Wei and JK (Joseph Kevin) Stracke who spoke to the project about their service in the Navy from 1968, with particular reference to the Vietnam War and how it continues to affect them.

James Edgar also spoke to us about his time in the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers during his National Service from 1969 to 1972. James did not get sent to Vietnam, although he was prepared and expecting to go. James also discusses the pride he feels for his service, and the equality and acceptance he experienced in the army.
