Our Yarn Up at the Aboriginal Employment Strategy Office in Dubbo was quieter than we expected. Patricia Neal came to see us and shared information about members of her family who had served, namely George Percy Wallace who was killed in action in World War 1 and is buried in Belgium, and her great uncle Gundi who served in World War 2 in Darwin. Patricia also discusses her research into family history and aboriginal service more broadly, particularly in relation to her work in teaching school children.

On our way from Dubbo to Moree we stopped at Narrabri to talk with Les Knox who shared stories of his Grandfather John Knox, who served in World War 2, and his cousin Bluey Lang, who also served and was a passionate advocate for wider recognition of aboriginal service.

Patricia Neal discusses the World War 1 service of her relative Gundi was treated poorly after his service, and as a result did not engage with Anzac Day.
